He was 63 years old. Mr. Cusumano had more than 20 one‐man exhibitions here and abroad and his paintings are in the permanent collections of leading American museums. Reviewers in The New York Times called his paintings “elegant,” “informed” and “lyrical,” and one reviewer described him as “a consummate master” of his “elaborately formulated style.” Among his honors were the Ford Foundation Purchase Award at the Whitney Museum in 1962 and the Childe Hassan, Award at the American Institute of Arts and Letters in both 1968 and 1971. Mr. Cusumano studied at Cooper Union and the Metropolitan Art School. He had studio in Manhattan for many years and, until he retired last year, was an adjunct associate professor at Cooper Union.
