T10 Steel Katana, Clay Tempered Blade, Real Hamon Line, Nicely Painted Saya

Description: T10 Tungsten based Steel Katana, the blade is old method clay tempered with no Bo-Hi and a natural hamon line. The handle is hickory secured with 2 menuki pins and covered with white ray skin, black Leather Ito Style Wrap over 2 dragon menuki, then an added spiral of silver handle wrap. The tsuba (handguard) is solid cast iron, slotted with an Emperor Moth decoration on one side and the handle fittings are black iron. The saya is wonderfully painted black and silver clouds, wind gusts, and swirls... very nice Japanese style artistry. The Sageo tie is silk woven with black on one side and white on the other. Includes a nice sword bag and basic maintenance kit shown in the pics. Proudly designed and made by Jesse at Karbon Steele. After the blade is folded around 15 times for tens of thousands of layers, it is flash tempered in ice water for maximum hardness at the cutting edge. Really pure carbon steel flash tempered is very hard, but brittle as well so it can crack or shatter. To prevent this, the spine has a special mixture of clay painted on it heavily before the flash tempering so it will cool slower and stay more springy... the effect prevents possible cracking by giving the sword blade shock resistance. This process makes the sword much stronger and causes the natural hamon line due to differences in hardness. There are lots of How-To videos online or YouTube for maintenance and sharpening; just need a kit or some mineral oil and soft cloths, whetstone or accusharp sharpener, and liquid polish or sand paper for polishing. Flitz Polish is good for shining and removing minor scratches and rust, but wet sanding may be needed for deep scratches and big rust spots. Any leather wrap should be occasionally treated to prevent drying and cracking, the blade needs to be occasionally cleaned with mineral oil to prevent rusting... especially after use or sharpening.
