Description: DC COMICS DC Cinematic Universe DCU KeySUPERMAN (2025)Krypto, The Super-Dog: HTF Collectable Cover Art by Alex Ross A SHORT HISTORY OF KRYPTO While a few rumors were already circulating the inter-webs about his appearance, it wasn't until October 15th 2024 that DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that KRYPTO THE SUPER-DOG would make his Feature Film Debut in Superman (2025), which Gunn also wrote and directed. In DC Comics' history, Krypto was a Kryptonian dog and pet kept by the El family that Jor-El sent to Earth to test a prototype of the spaceship he'd later use to rocket baby Kal-El away from his doomed home-world. Krypto's spaceship was knocked-off its course, however, and arrived on earth years later than intended. He first appeared in Adventure Comics #210 (Mar 1955). Never featured in any of the Superman films to-date, Krypto was given his own animated series, Krypto The Super-Dog, on the Cartoon Network in 2005. Interestingly, the cartoon coincided with Krypto's return to comics, where he had been absent for nearly 20 years due to a streamlining of the Superman mythos in relation to Crisis On Infinite Earths (1985). Krypto also made several appearances alongside the character of Superboy (Kon-El) in the HBO max series, Titans (2018-2020). Gunn decided to introduce Krypto in Superman thanks to being inspired by his own dog, Ozu, which he had recently adopted as a rescue animal shelter. A victim of an animal hoarding situation that included over 60 dogs locked in yard and never having any human contact, Ozu was problematic and destructive until he acclimated over the course of several months. Perhaps the best tribute to Krypto ever published, superstar artist ALEX ROSS's cover of SUPERMAN #680 featuring "THE DOG OF STEEL" portrays the canine from Krypton with dignity and a quiet, powerful emotion. A low-print , hard-to-find issue, this book has been recognized by collectors as a key heading into next year's Superman reboot. Give your collection what it deserves today!
