Description: STAR TREK MEME BUTTONS Get a Life, LLAP, Oh My! and Shut Up Wesley! This listing is for four repro 1.25" pinback buttons with quotes from Star Trek & its actors that took on a life of their own. In the 1986 SNL skit 'Get a Life!', written by Bob Odenkirk & Judd Apatow, William Shatner (the actual guest host of SNL that night) basically plays himself at a science fiction convention. After being barraged by personal questions by people who are obviously VERY devoted to the show, he finally explodes: "GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show!" "Get a Life!" later became: an autobiographal book in which William Shatner learned to love with world of Star Trek fandom a little bit more; a documentary about fandom based on that same book; the title of a TV series starring Chris Elliott; and - a Super Mario Brothers rallying cry (?!) LLAP is an acronym of a quote from the original Star Trek series, spoken by Spock as he gave the Vulcan salute in "Amok Time." The Vulcan salute is a hand gesture popularized by the 1960s television series Star Trek. It consists of a raised hand with the palm forward and the thumb extended, while the fingers are parted between the middle and ring finger. The accompanying spoken blessing, "live long and prosper," also appeared for the first time in "Amok Time", scripted by Theodore Sturgeon. The phrase has been seen abbreviated "LLAP" and has taken on a fannish life of its own. "Oh My!" is a quote from George Takei. The quote is surrounded by a rainbow pattern. George Takei is an author and actor known for playing the character Hikaru Sulu in the science fiction television series Star Trek and his strong online presence in advocacy of LGBT rights. Takei has often been associated with the catchphrase “Oh My,” which originated from Takei’s character in the Disney Channel sitcom Cory in the House. The phrase was often sampled on the Howard Stern radio show, typically in response to sexual innuendo. The way that Mr. Takei says the phrase is certainly full of innuendo! "Shut Up Wesley!" is a quote from 'Star Trek : The Next Generation.' When 'Star Trek' was recreated for another generation, many people were delighted! Some people, however, found one of the characters, Wesley Crusher (played by Wil Wheaton) to be grating and wished that he would just be quiet instead of spieling off some technobabble that always ended up being the right thing to do. The phrase "Shut up, Wesley" was said by Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the episode "Datalore" and quickly became a fan favorite. These buttons would be a spot of color on your Star Trek uniform, your well-loved T-shirt, your trippably long scarf, your rainbow flag, or your propellor beanie!
