Description: Saint Kateri TekakwithaHoly Medal on 24" continuous Stainless steel neckchainThe Lily of the Mohawks This 7/8" oval nickel silver medal has a beautifully detailed image of St Kateri, holding her rosary, with a blanket wrapped around her. Her hair hangs free, and rays can be seen coming from around her head - a variation of a saint's halo. Above her head is the name "Kateri Tekakwitha". This medal was made before her canonization in 2012, which is why it doesn't have "St" before her name. The medal has oxidation added to show up the details, and gives the medal that great vintage look. On the back of the medal are large block letters "Pray for Us" and a smaller "Italy" where the medal was made. We have attached it to a 24" stainless steel chain which is continuous, meaning it has no clasp, just slip it over the head: no clasps to worry about. Kateri (also called Catherine) Tekakwitha was the daughter of a Christian Algonquin woman who was captured and given in marraige to a Mohawk chief. She was orphaned during a smallpox epidemic which left her face scarred. When she was baptized a Christian she suffered persecution from her Mohawk relatives and tribe, and escaped from them to join a village of other Christian Native Americans. When she died in 1680, it was said that the scars on her face disappeared and her face became beautiful again. Her grave became (and still is) a place of miracles. She is the first Native American to be canonized. St Kateri is the patron saint of Ecology and the environment and those who seek to protect and conserve our beautiful natural resources, which is fitting as she lived in the beautiful northern forests of upstate New York and the Adirondacks. She is also a patron of orphans and people who are ridiculed for their piety. This medal and neckchain comes gift boxed and with two different prayer cards; both of them made by us. They are 4-page prayer cards which are my own creations; one contains the Litany of the Lily of the Mohawks, and the other has various prayers. Both have multiple images of the saint, along with her patronages on one card; and one card includes the image of a painting which was said to have been painted from life. We also include a gift bag and tissue paper, so your medal comes all ready to give as a gift. She is a favorite of young people and fans of anything Native American and Christian nature-lovers.
