Description: Size: 3/4 inchMaterial: Sterling silver This beautiful medal features St Jerome reading or translating a book. He wears a cardinal's hat and has a lion seated beside him. St Jerome is associated with the lion because a story associated with him says that he pulled a thorn from a lion's paw. In gratitude the lion stayed with him for the rest of its life. St Jerome was a 4th century monk and scholar who excelled in theology. He was commissioned by the Pope Damasus to revise the latin text of the Bible. The work took 30 years and his translation, known as the vulgate, is still used today. He spent the last 34 years of his life living as a hermit in the holy land where he wrote translations of many ancient texts. It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USAr.
