Description: Size: 3/4 inchMaterial: Sterling silver This medal shows St Benedict on the front with his famous motto "Ora et Labora" (Work and Prayer) in Latin. The reverse shows the cross of St Benedict which is used as protection from evil. St Benedict was born to Roman nobility and was the twin brother of St Scholastica. When studying to be a priest in Rome, he was so upset by the bad behavior of his fellow students that he went to the mountains of Italy where he could study alone and live as a hermit. He later founded the monastery at Monte Cassino where he wrote a rule for his monks to live by. He was so strict that several of his monks tried to poison his wine, but when he blessed the cup the poison was rendered harmless. He eventually established twelve monasteries and is known as the father of the western monastic system. His rule is summarized by the latin motto "Ora et Labora" (Pray and Work). The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA St Benedict is the patron of:Against temptationAgainst evilAgainst poisonCaversStudentsAgainst gallstonesKidney diseaseFarmers IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL BUYERS OUTSIDE THE USA: -Delivery of your package typically takes 2 weeks but can take up to 4 to 6 weeks. - Charges such as Value Added Tax (VAT), Customs Fees, Duties, Handling Charges, or other charges imposed by your country when you import goods are not included in the item price or shipping charges.
