Description: Rare Early Spyderco Clipit Merlin Lockback Knife Discontinued and Highly Sought After! I've had difficulty finding any information on the manufacture of this knife. From what I've gleaned, SpyderCo was growing quickly, remodeling and renaming products at a furious pace. Found with other valuable knives in a West Tennessee estate, this vintage Spyderco Clipit Merlin is a true collector's item. Featuring a serrated hawkbill blade and a unique plastic molded clip, this handle is an seldom seen version of the only slightly more common Clipit Merlin design. This is an early "Clipit" design, made before "EDC" was "a thing". Sal at Spyderco, I think, invented the pocket knife with a clip, and this is a knife that's representative of a major step in the evolution of pocket knives. This could be from manufacture, as this is an otherwise unused knife.*** These knives were purchased and removed from their boxes, then placed in a display case. The blade is in excellent condition, with a factory edge and was never carried or used. There is a slight circular abrasion near the pivot pin on the back side of the blade caused by (me probably) opening the knife. I've tried to take plenty of pictures with light at different angles to show that the blade and handle are in unused, never carried condition, but to also show the mark on the back of the blade clearly.
