Description: Images one through four are of my stock specimen plants, including a photo of a recently opened inflorescence and the hot pink mature spadix. Sale plant is a well-established flowering-sized division in NZ sphagnum shown in images five through seven. A few clipped leaf tips from the transplant phase but very clean and healthy throughout. This plant is >36” tall overall and requires extra boxing and Priority mailing charges due to its size and weight. Cyclanths – close New World relatives of pandanus and not palms, despite their appearance - are rarely offered for sale in exotic horticulture, and rare cyclanths, even more rarely! The plant be offered is a near flowering-sized offset of a beautiful, slow-climbing species from the foothills of the Colombian Andes, Sphaeradenia purpurea. These gorgeous and very exotic-looking plants are very deliberate in their growth habit, but can slowly offset and fill a 15’”pot over time and reach over 6’ tall. In spite of this imposing mature size, they can also be kept quite compact for many years by the simple expedient of underpotting them. Leaves are stiff and glossy like hard plastic, while the stems and petioles are bright maroon, very much like the better forms of the SE Asian palm, Areca vestiaria. Infructescences/spadices are a vivid lipstick pink and last in good color for a couple weeks. They are superb subjects for large enclosures holding tropical herps, and are robust enough to handle the traffic of medium sized terrarium inhabitants. Can take heat well, but requires cooling off at night to thrive. Excellent subjects for sun rooms and greenhouses in coastal California and elsewhere; may suffer a bit in south Florida unless located in a cool, shady spot. I have not trialed it as an indoors plant, but I’m certain that a skilled gardener could make it happen. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Shipping: Plants will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with tracking number for physical addresses within three working days of receipt of payment, weather permitting. 72 hour heat packs are available for an additional nominal charge. Wherever possible, plants will be shipped in plastic pots. If bare-rooting is required for shipment to your state, please advise when auction is completed. Discounts on mailing charges available for multiple plant purchases. Delays: plants may be held for shipment if extreme weather conditions (involving sustained sub 40 degree F or 98+ F temperatures) are forecast for destination and buyer will be notified of this decision. Paid-for purchased material will be greenhoused on my end me until a window of mild weather is forecast. Should the buyer insist on prompt shipment, in writing, when a severe weather warning is in effect, the live arrival guarantee is void. Payment is expected within 48 hours of receipt of invoice and invoice will be sent shortly after auction close. No International Sales. No local pickup. Live arrival guarantee. Photographic evidence of damage or loss in transit must be provided within 24 hours of arrival to receive same species replacement material or refund.
