Description: exact item shown, SMT Sierra Microwave Technology (cage code 1CY63) Equalizer SM31150. update I got a new analyzer that goes to 20 GHz so now I have a nice plot of this device (first two photos) - it has a -12 t0 15 dB notch at 19.525 GHz - this could be to block a mixing product from an upconverter/down converter, maybe - it's your guess what it was for but you can see from the analyzer trace what it does. this is my orignal wording - My analyzer tops out at 3 GHz so I spent a bunch of time trying to figure this one out with a signal generator and a power meter. Ultimately it was making no sense to me so I contacted Sierra Microwave and they told me basically what it was. The test data you see hand written in the photo confirms what they said and gives you some idea of what it is doing. This probably was to correct for cable attenuation over the 8-18GHz range, but that's a guess. Here is what SMT told me (very nice customer service, by the way, let's support companies like this) The part you are inquiring about, SM31150, was designed in 1989 and shipped in 1990 to Litton Applied Technology for an electronic counter measures system. We no longer have records easily available since it is over 30 years old. It appears to be a negative slope gain equalizer that was specified from 8.0 GHz to 18.0 GHz with low loss at 18.0 GHz (probably 1.5 dB to 2.0 dB) and higher loss at 8 GHz (probably 10dB). This component was used to “equalize” the gain/attenuation over the 8 GHz to 18 GHz band in the system. The device (I am just guessing) has two threaded in SMA female connectors in to a painted aluminum body/cover that is between 1.25” and 2” long. It is comprised of a microstrip circuit with three stop band resonators with resistive coupling to the center conductor. The SMA center pin will measure a DC resistance to ground. The structure is not defined below 8 GHz and above 18 GHz where the VSWR will likely overwhelm any meaningful measurement. Note to me: top drawer, small gray cabinet I normally ship within 24 hours of your order, but the post office does not always initiate tracking when I put the packages in the drop off box.
