The sample was stitched on my personal Singer Model 625. The top looks like regular straight stitch; the chain stitch is formed on the underside. According to my manual, chain stitching may be used for basting, stay-stitching, attaching removable trimming, making button loops, attaching hem tape, anchoring linings, or holding shoulder pads in place.
