Description: This FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is SIGNED, INSCRIBED, AND DATED 1994 by the author John Berendt. First editions of this classic true crime memoir are rare, and this one has ALL of the requisite first edition points: the copyright page includes a “First Edition” statement below a full number line that goes to “2” (per Random House’s pre-2003 custom for first edition number lines), the original $23.00 price on the front flap of the dust jacket, an Ann Beattie blurb at the top of the rear panel of the dust jacket, 388 pages, dark green boards with a black cloth spine, and an error at page 11, line 32, in which “for” is misspelled “fmr”. (See www.fedpo.com.) Please see photographs as to these first edition points. The author John Berendt boldly signed, inscribed, and dated this first edition in black ink on the half-title page in the year of its first publication (1994). The book is in very good condition but for a small area of some slight water staining (with resulting color bleed from the black boards) to the bottom inner edge of the front and rear endpapers and a couple of the adjacent pages; some edgewear and shelfwear (with a few tiny spots of wear-through to the bottom edges, bottom corners, and heel of spine); a tiny spot the size of an “O” to pages 383-84, and a couple of small and nearly invisible spots to the edges of the page block. The pages otherwise are clean and bright and the book is tightly and squarely bound. Please see photographs as to condition. The dust jacket—which is NOT price clipped—likewise is in very good condition but for some light shelfwear and edgewear and some water staining/color bleed from the boards to the interior bottom edge near the spine (not visible from the outside of the jacket). Please see photos as to condition. The dust jacket is now enclosed in a removable archival mylar dust jacket protector. This collectible signed first edition is not ex-library, not remaindered, not price-clipped, and not a book club edition. It will be shipped bubble wrapped in a box.
