Description: Surgery of Peripheral Nerves by Emil Seletz, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S. Springfield, Illinois: Charles C. Thomas 1951 First Edition Signed association copy, inscribed by Emil Seletz to Marvin Wachman (1917-2007), who was President of Temple University from 1973 to 1982. Emil Seletz, M.D., a prominent neurosurgeon, had a notable connection to Temple University through his contributions to public art on the campus. He is known for presenting a bust of Abraham Lincoln, which he sculpted, to the Temple University Law School. This bust was dedicated to Marvin Wachman, who was a president of the university. While Seletz's professional work was primarily based in Los Angeles, his artistic contributions have a lasting presence at Temple University. I acquired this volume from Marvin Wachman's daughter Lynn Wachman Guttman. Marvin Wachman (March 24, 1917 – December 22, 2007) was a distinguished educator and university administrator. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Jewish immigrants from Latvia and Belarus, Wachman earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He started his career teaching history at Colgate University and served as the director of the Salzburg Seminar in Austria. In 1961, Wachman became president of Lincoln University, where he revitalized the institution's financial and academic standing. He later served as president of Temple University from 1973 to 1982, during which he expanded the university with new campuses in Tokyo and downtown Philadelphia. After retiring, he held interim presidential roles at Albright College and the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. Quarto, xv, 185 pages, publisher's original color pictorial dust jacket. Publisher's original gilt lettered blue cloth covered boards. Illustrated throughout in black and white. Some slight wear, else in very good + condition.
