Description: SIGNED by author Robert Favra and illustrator John Fulton. Little Egret and Toro. 1971 HC. A book about friendship and loyalty, Little Egret and Toro is the touching and inspiring story of a cattle egret and the fighting bull who saves his life -- after which, years later, Little Egret is able to return the favor. The egret warns the bull that he will wind up in the butcher shop if he goes into the bullring, so when he does fight, the bird devises a plan to save him. Both the author and illustrator were well-known artists and bullfighting afficionados. Fulton (1933 - 1998) was an American bullfighter and painter, who was only one of two Americans to receive the alternativa (the ceremony in which a novice becomes a full matador). Inspired by bulls and bullfighting in Mexico, Vavra (born 1935 -- ) moved to Spain in 1958 with a one-way ticket to Madrid, spending six years studying the bulls and sport, and becoming friendly with many matadors, including Fulton. Signed by both the author (Vavra) and the illustrator (Fulton) on the title page. Most of the blank front endpaper has been cut off (probably to remove previous owner's identifying information). Otherwise, in nice condition -- clean and tight, no writing or tears. Light tanning to the pages. No dj. Light edgewear/bumped corners to the glossy boards. There is a slight crease in the gloss used to cover the front boards; looks like a production error, not damage. This copy is a 1971 printing (printed in Spain, but English language text) of the 1966 original, not the 2010 reprint.
