Lens works 100%, Excellent Glass, Excellent Mechanics. Good Appearance. For sale is a pre-AI (non-AI) Nikkor 50mm f2 type K. Type K 50/2 was marketed from 1974 to 1977. It was the last generation of non-AI just before AI 50/2 was was released in 1977. The 50/2 type K is optically identical to its successor 50/2 AI. AI just had the mount and aperture ring updated, and cosmetic update on the rubber grip (the ribs became wider). The 50/2 Nikkor, although a stop slower than its big brother Nikkor 50/1.4, this lens is very well built and known to be very sharp. The lens front glass is deeply recessed inside a metal cone with nicely machined extinction rings thus need of a shade is eliminated. The Nikkor 50/2 lineage have earned rave review from Ken Rockwell and it has its unique position in Nikon lens lineup - 2nd in "NIKKOR - The Thousand and One Nights": https://imaging.nikon.com/history/story/0002/index.htm With the complete rebuilding we just performed, it will provide you many years of joyful use. These type K lenses are over 40 years old and generally needs service to restore its performance. The main culprit is the grease in the lens. After decades of use (or disuse) it usually has separated and the lighter oil part has evaporated and condensed onto the internal glass surfaces to form a film of numerous tiny oil droplets (oil haze) - very detrimental to image quality as it softens the image quite a lot. The oil haze is much worse than a little swirls of cleaning mark on the coating or a few sporadic dust particles inside the lens. Some of the lenses, if they have experienced hot/cold conditions for example in a storage unit, the lighter oil may have got onto the blades to cause a sluggish or completely stuck aperture. Even if not yet on blades, often the oil has crept close to the aperture cartridge and before long it will get onto the blades. The grease on the focus helicoids may have deteriorated (separated, lighter oil is gone, heavier part has gummed up) to cause a stiff focus ring or very loose focus action with some play. If the lens has been on beach or in dusty environment, the focus action may be gritty. The lens here has just been completely serviced. We cleaned it inside out. Internal glass surfaces have been cleaned. Oil in vicinity of the aperture cartridge, as well as gummed up grease at various places has been cleaned off. Helicoids have been completely cleaned and with new modern grease applied. The lens will serve you many more years without you worrying about those issues mentioned above. The lens glass is clear and bright without scratch, fungus or haze. If you shine strong light through you may see a little tiny dusts as usual. This is normal and has no effects on lens performance. When viewing in certain way you will see a swirl of cleaning marks on the front glass coating at extreme edge. It is very slight and has no effects on lens performance. Aperture blades has no oil. Snappy. Focus is smooth and with proper resistance. Aperture ring clicks at stops as it should. Filter threads are good. Filter screws on/off without effort. Lens appearance is in good condition. The lens barrel is actually pretty good and clean, just showing normal signs of use in form of minor bright spots here and there, with all lettering is crisp and bright. No ding or dent or crack. The front edge of the filter ring shows quite a lot wear marks (worn finish, small nicks etc) but they are cosmetic. Filters screws on/off w/o effort. Please see photos for cosmetic conditions.
