Description: Mark VI model, serial number 271135, indicates it was made in 1977. Made in a time period where few sopranos were being manufactured. If you reference the serial number chart made by Douglas Pipher (Saxophone serial: https://www.selmer.fr/en/blogs/infos/numeros-de-serie-saxophones-selmer ), it places it in the era of Mark VII, but on another chart (Selmer Serial: http://saxpics.com/?v=ser&manID=18 ) it puts an overlap between 1975-1981 where both Mark VI and Mark VII were being manufactured. Manufactured, assembled and lacquered in France. (VintageSelmer Lacquer and Engraving: https://www.getasax.com/vintage-selmer-lacquer-and-engraving-part-2-euro-assembled-selmer-mark-vi-saxophones/) Referenced here for info about lacquer finishes and engraving as an indicator for where the horn was finished. Purchased in 1993, played constantly for 5 years, then stored in a temperature-controlled environment until 2020. Serviced in 2023, pads replaced, a couple of springs replaced, screws tightened, upper stack removed and cleaned, all keys regulated and leveled. The horn is ready to play! Nearly pristine condition, very few scratches on the bell, a small blemish on the neck, but otherwise the lacquer is nearly perfect, no tarnishing. Smooth action throughout the horn including easy movement in the pinky keys. It has that signature Selmer sound, clear, mellow and full, even in the upper register, it’s not shrill or thin. One exception to note: There is a section on the back side of the horn, under the thumb rest where a previous owner had made some kind of mark that is scratched out. There is also a hand carved “B” within the stamp on the front of the horn. (see pictures). Not sure about the story behind the marks, but it made no impact on the quality of sound or the play ability of this instrument. Additional items included:1) Rectangle Hard Case2) Cone attachment for a standard tripod stand.3) Green pad saver 4) Assorted Mouthpieces – (1) Eugene Rousseau Studio Jazz SJ6, (1) Eugene Rousseau 4P, (1) J&D HITE, (2) ligatures and(1) mouthpiece cap.
