Description: After almost half a century, the Seiko "Turtle" has become legendary as an in-destructive, distinctive looking divers' watch. It's hard to find a good all original example because these watches are so tough that they were worn to near death.....and they still kept going until the glass was so scratched that you could no longer read the time! The turtle (so nicknamed) gained further notoriety when worn by a character named Captain Willard. If you are still reading this, I have no doubt you know the background story. The turtle have never been known to die of natural causes!! I present here an excellent example featuring a new glass, bezel insert and strap, professionally overhauled that is functioning beautifully. The dial and hands are original and aged in a typical manner for this model. The glass is new, replaced in the overhaul. The bezel is in good condition, rotates freely but is a little loose through wear. The insert is new, replaced in the overhaul. The crown is original and locks into position with a nice action as it should. The case shows some wear, a lot less than expected from a 48 year old classic. The strap is new, quality Duraflex, polyurothene, close in style and quality to the original. The 6105 movement is a variant of the 6119 which is (in my opinion) one of Seiko's finest. It has just been professionally overhauled. It performs perfectly and looks beautiful. About vintage mechanical watches: A vintage mechanical watch will not perform like a modern quartz (electronic) watch. Also, with age comes fragility and it may no longer be ideal as a daily wearer. It should be treated for what it is, something old, classical and special. Treat it as you would a vintage car - not ideal to use as a “daily driver”. Keep it in the condition at which you bought it and it will hold or, indeed, increase its value. Use it every day and it will go backwardsOverhaul/Service Explained: I am often asked about what an overhaul entails. So I have started adding a photo of the movement, disassembled ready to go through the cleaning machine. All old dried up lubricants, crud and anything else that shouldn't be there is cleaned away. Then, it is reassembled, lubricated, adjustments made and regulated.About Me: I am a born again watchmaker! I finished my apprenticeship in 1973 having completed technical training at the RMIT, Melbourne. In the early 80s I went into retail (jewellery and watches). In the mid 90s I came to realise that the watches that once were common had become rare and I began to appreciate their beauty both aesthetically and mechanically. That’s when I started collecting classics. When covid hit, I retired from retail, set up a workshop at home, regained my skills and am now restoring classics with a passion.
