Description: F a m o u s & R a r e ! Recalled Legends of the West Error Sheet (U.S. #2870) In 1994, the Postal Service announced it was creating a set of stamps titled "Legends of the West." The 20 stamp set featured American-themed subjects associated with the exploration, settlement and development of the American West. One of the people featured was black rodeo star Bill Pickett. An error was made and Ben Pickett, Bill's brother was printed. When Pickett's great-grandson saw the design he realized the stamp pictured Bill's brother, Ben. Because it couldn't recall and destroy those that had already been sold, the U.S. Postal Service announced that only an additional 150,000 error sheets would be sold to the public, and the rest were to be destroyed. This major incident created one of the most famous and controversial stamps in history. Don't miss this unique, history-making rarity. Package will be shipped with insurance. A signature is required for delivery.
