Description: This is the 1996 digitally-remastered analogue stereo recording. The sound is full, clear and deep. Most of these MC releases came from the Vox Turnabout catalogue. Peter Maag, the Swiss conductor, was famously reliable and musical in early Romantic repertoire. Maag takes a deeply musical and refreshing view of this music. The springier movements have lovely momentum and life, songful, as they should be. The deeper movements receive heartfelt readings. The slow movement of the 5th is beautifully done, and provides a good counterpoint to the “speedy” readings one sometimes gets today. The emigré Hungarian orchestra are of the front rank. The box is intact and fully functioning. The insert booklet is very good and the disc itself very good, it plays perfectly. Priced cheaply for a quick sale.
