Description: This set of Scholastic Sight Word Readers with workbook is adorable! It is in excellent condition, considering how long I have had it! I used the books, in my kindergarten classroom, during independent reading time. My kindergarten students absolutely loved them, and they enjoyed doing the workbook page that went along with each book! And, they really liked the word searches! Those were their favorite! This set is clean and comes from a smoke free home. Little words make a big difference. Many little words (ex. a, this, of, to, or, it, etc.) are "sight words". These are the words that appear most frequently in print. They are also the words that control the flow and coherence of a story. But, learning sight words can be tricky, because most of them don't follow a decodable pattern. That's where "Sight Word Readers" come in. This collection of lively storybooks (#1 - #24) gives kids practice with the top 50 words used in print. And, by reading them together, teachers and adults can help children commit these key words to memory, setting the stage for reading success. This set consists of #13 - #24 Sight Word Readers and the Write-and-Learn Workbook for Books #13 - #24. The author of the books and the Write-and-Learn Workbook is Linda Ward Beech. Two of the books are illustrated by Cary Pillo. The other books all have different illustrators. The copyright on the books is 2003, and the publisher is Scholastic. Each book focuses on 2 sight words that are shown in the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. In the back of each book there are instant activities for building reading skills and sight-word fluency. There is an activity for before reading, one for during reading, and one for after reading. The Write-and-Learn Workbook measures 8"-10" and begins by giving teachers/parents 7 suggestions for using the books. On the rest of the pages are activities that involve writing the sight words for each story and coloring in boxes in which the sight words are located. At the back of the workbook there are also 4 word searches that center around the sight words within the books. The following is a list of books within the set and the sight words they focus on: Up and Down (up and down), Sharing (one and two), Fly Away (will and fly), That Is Funny! (a and funny), Helpers (help and at), Find It! (find and the), Dinner (we and get), Go, Go (they and go), My Bear (my and can), Three (have and three), My Dog (you and and), and New Socks (want and new). This set would make a wonderful addition to a kindergarten classroom! It would also be great to have in a household with young children! I am hoping to find this set a good home.
