This auction is for a MINT NEVER HINGED, Fine-Very Fine JOINT LINE/PRECANCEL GAP (on joint line) Strip of 6 of Scott #1616b, the PRECANCELED, DULL GUM 9c Capitol Dome coil, from the Americana Series. This strip is precanceled "PRESORTED FIRST-CLASS" and is the scarce variety that has 0.5mm between lines of text (Precancel Stamp Society type 2.1). Also included in this lot is the more common precancel variety with 2.0mm between lines of text (PSS type 2.2). This is a Joint Line and Gap Strip of 4. The Scott catalogue does not value this scarce variety, but the 2018 Brookman catalogue values a F-VF Joint line pair at $450 and singles at $50. The 2022 Scott catalogue DOES value the common variety at $21.00 for the joint line and pair (with no regard to any premium for the precancel gap). Total catalogue value of this lot is $671.00. This strips are in excellent condition--the gum is immaculate with no gum skips or fingerprints. Commonly found used, these are infrequently found with never hinged original gum.
