I was on my way to teach my music fundamentals class at Atlanta’s largest college and I came upon a spot where there are two intersections about 150 feet apart. I was stopped at the traffic signal at the furthest of the two intersections. I was 3 cars back from the light, looking at some pedestrians to my right. They were closer to me than the intersection. I heard a crash. I looked forward and could not see anything. A car spun away from the intersection, then another hit the car, two cars ahead of me. The car, 2 cars ahead of me, then slammed into the car two cars ahead. That car was pushed the car 1 car ahead of me, and that car was pushed into my car. The two witnesses that saw the crash both said that the first car (allegedly) ran the red light while the second car turned on an arrow from the opposite direction, but the car (allegedly) running the light hit the turning car. The turning car hit the car 2 cars ahead of me, then the car two cars ahead hit the car 1 car ahead, then that car hit me. We had a huge car insurance squabble, the mediator found the car that (allegedly) ran the light at fault. However, at court, the defense for the car that ran the light said the police report was no good because the witness’ English was poor, and none of those witnesses were in court (it is a community with a high refuge population). This was all in court 15 months after the incident. During that 15 months I had physical therapy that my car insurance, at that time, did not cover. I had a credit card, and ran up a total of about $3500 (not bad, really) including my doctor's visits, imaging and PT (which was excellent). I tried to file a claim, but the guy who (allegedly) ran the light said I had to wait until the mediation was over. After the mediation, I tried again, but they had me wait until the day in court. After the day in court, the (alleged) light runner was not charged, so I have no claim. Guess who footed the PT bill... Me. I did get refunded the deductible on fixing my car. My problem...I did not see the crash! I have no idea, save what the witnesses claimed, what the status of the light was. They can’t say I don’t speak English, as I teach college music classes in English. If I had my YADA dashcam, I would have been reimbursed by the car insurance of the person at fault (most likely the person the witnesses saw run the light).
