Description: NEW CUSTOM: A GAILEY STUDIOS PREMIER MODEL Breyer Traditional “ORMOLU THE SUN KING” Rose/Copper/Silver “Gilt Bronze” Decorator Fighting Stallion At the time of Louis XIV, the famed “Sun King” of France, aristocratic French decoration often used “Ormolu,” an alloy of gold, copper, and mercury over bronze to give a rich, layered texture and color to statues and ornate furniture. This Stallion is in the tradition of magnificent gilt bronze horses, like those in Venice’s Piazza San Marco and throughout Europe. Feel the very slight pebbling that imitates bronze casting under gilt. Look closely and you will see the dominant tones of rose gold and yellow gold, freckled with copper and silver (“mercury”) highlights. The deepest undertones hint at the bronze, plus there are touches of antiquing. (Ormolu is no longer made the same way, because mercury, we we now know, is poisonous.) This handsome fellow is way beyond the usual metallic decorator models! The artist worked to achieve the texture, depth and layering of the metallic colors of ormolu, which has not been done on a Breyer or Peter Stone model before.
