Description: Original 1949 magazine advertisement page for SAKS FIFTH AVENUE. Beautiful full-page illustration was done by Carl Erickson. Ad says: Sophie tiers lace into a frail pyramid, delicately adds a web of fichu for important spring evenings. A Sophie original, in our Designer Collections. Saks locations were listed as New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills and Detroit. Opposite side of page has full page ad for Van Cleef & Arpels, World famous French designers and manufacturers of precious jewelry. Ad work is not as dramatic or interesting as the Saks side, so that's the side I am featuring. Magazine page is in good condition. It does have several minor wrinkles from being handled while bound in the magazine.Edges were trimmed to eliminate minor damage. It now measures 9" x 12 1/4". I'll place the ad page inside a plastic sleeve and add a piece of white foam board for protection while mailing by USPS First Class in a bubble envelope. I'll mail the same day, or next day after PayPal payment is received. Following are some details on this very talented and accomplished illustrator: (1891 - 1958) Carl Erickson was a fashion illustrator and advertising artist who was well known for his work with Vogue magazine and Coty cosmetics. He worked for Vogue from 1916 to 1958 when he died; most likely from complications due to alcoholism. He was commonly known as "Eric," a name he used to sign his work, which was given to him by fellow students at the Academy of Fine Arts, Chicago. Along with fashion illustration, Erickson was also an accomplished portrait artist. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Queen Elizabeth II, Frank Sinatra, and Gertrude Stein are a few of the public figures who sat for him. During his early career he lived in New York City, and later moved to Senlis, France, with his wife, the fashion illustrator Lee Creelman.
