The Harrisons & Sons London-printed 'Southern Rhodesia' definitives were overprinted in two lines in black ink -- "INDEPENDENCE / 11th November 1965" -- and issued on 17 January 1966. • 20,000 of the 436,000 printed 'Churchill' commemorative stamp of 16 August 1965 were also overprinted in the same format, but in red ink (S.G. cat. £11.00). The short-lived unsold balance of this 1s3d commemorative stamp was withdrawn from sale on 15 October 1965.
