Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE 1st edition, 1st impression hardback with dust-jacket, published by Oxford University Press (1958). HISTORICAL NOTE: George F. Kennan was an “American diplomat who did more than any other envoy of his generation to shape U.S. policy during the cold war” (The New York Times obituary). He was the father of the policy of ‘containment’ and in 1957 was invited to deliver that year’s Reith lectures. His illuminating seven lectures are entitled: 1. The Internal Soviet Scene. 2. Soviet Mind and World Realities. 3. The Problem of Eastern and Central Europe. 4. The Military Problem. 5. The Non-European World. 6. Strengthening NATO: to what End? 7. Anglo-American Relations. Much of what is discussed is disturbingly relevant in view of the current war in Ukraine. DESCRIPTION OF BOOK: The quality of this 65 year old book is very good - the spine is square, there is no cracking and the hinges and binding are sound. Text is completely free of any annotations or markings. The original boards and cloth are nowhere bumped, edges show no wear, titles on spine bright (barely visible very small stain top right corner of back board). DESCRIPTION OF DUST JACKET: The dust-jacket has clearly done its job of preserving the book’s very good condition. More remarkably, it is itself in good condition and the colours on the front are beautifully fresh (the only minor blemishes being a little wear to top edge near spine and a stain to back top right corner). The DJ is now protected in a clear archival cover for preservation and display. An attractive, very useable, completely unrestored volume. In such good condition, a collectable FIRST EDITION. 12mo, vii, 120pp.
