Description: An exceptional example of scenic landscape decorated art pottery in vellum glaze from the Rookwood Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The decoration performed by the well-known artist Lenora Asbury who began employment at the firm 1894 and continued her work for 37 years through 1931. During her tenure, she became efficient in the use of multiple glazes as well as subject matter of which she implemented on her pieces. One area of expertise were her scenic examples depicting foliage, fauna and animal forms in soothing pastel hues. This massive vessel has a beautiful natural landscape of trees and prairie surrounding a small pond. The shape is quite attractive as the broad body diminishes to a smaller round opening at the top. Standing 9 3/8” tall the body measures approximately 5 1/2” diameter at the widest region of the body with the opening spanning 3 1/8” across. The picture of the bottom reveals the standard company logo, the year of production 1915, the shape number 1126C, the letter V for vellum and the distinguishable cipher of the artist. I have cleaned and inspected this piece and can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. The inside is extremely clean for its age with only a small amount of minor coloration at the very bottom, a non-issue. I will mention and as visible in the pictures the entire outside surface is covered with a fine crazing none of which appears to be stained. Examples such as these are highly sought after in the collecting world and are sometimes difficult to locate in the marketplace. This example will be double boxed, shipped UPS ground, fully insured at a fixed price. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future. Thank you.
