Description: INTERNATIONAL BUYERS:💠The shipping rates shown are for '1st Class International Package' with tracking.💠Ebay is also promoting their EIS International Shipping program on sellers pages. I do not use this program because it is more expensive, slower, not very transparent, and frustrating to the buyer, if something goes wrong. Do not select it, if ebay does show it as an option. Thank you. Narrative: Under the direction of Prof. d'Espouy, the graduates of the famous Paris school of art, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, measured, rendered and shaded the views of the famous monuments of ancient Greece and Rome. These drawing were then reproduced by a 19th C. process called heliography. Fountain and Castle of Aqua Julia with the Trophies of Marius, Rome: Near S. Eusebio, at the spot where the road leafling to the Porta Maggiore diverges from the Via di S. Bibiana, are the ruins of a reservoir, known since the middle ages by the inappropriate name of the Trophies of Marius. It derives this appellation from the marble trophies, formerly placed in the two side niches, and thence transferred to the parapet of the flight of steps leading up to the Capitol. Till lately, the only certainty we possessed on the subject was that this splendidly decorated reservoir which was as important to ancient Rome as the Aqua Paola or Fontana di Trevi to the modern city, formed the point of junction with that arm of the Aqua Julia stretching over in this direction from S. Lorenzo. We have now learned from the coins of Alexander Severus, that this ruin was simply the nymphaeum of that Emperor, as is indicated in the Regionarii.
