Description: 1944 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust "Black/Red Date" This beautiful vintage circa 1944 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust is up for sale. It has a two-tone case, a white dial, gold stock markers, and a yellow-gold bezel. This comes with the rare alternating red and black date wheel. Comes on a two-tone 14k stainless steel and gold jubilee bracelet. Also comes with Rolex Service outer and inner box with pillow. The story behind this watch is remarkable. It is believed to have been worn over Berlin and Dresden in WWII by a USAAF officer. On the 14th mission in a B29, fragmentation hit the officer's right hand just below the watch. After this event, the watch was kept in a bank vault until 1957, which was the year that the original owner (pilot) passed away. His good friend who was given the watch after the pilot’s death had the watch sent to Rolex Certified Factory Repair for a service then put into a bank safety deposit box for safekeeping. The watch was never worn again until my father-in-law purchased this watch in 2002, and he has enjoyed it sparingly since.
