The design is ornate and asymmetrically curvy with a decided French influence. The humble teaspoon is the bedrock of all silver services. As the name implies, it is designed for use with cups of hot beverage. In old style living, the teaspoon does not get set on the table along with the forks etc. Instead, they live in a spoon holder in the middle of the table so whenever you need a spoon you just reach in and get one. Then, after stirring in the sugar and cream, wipe the spoon on your apron or napkin and return to the spooner. It is an old custom at the death of a lady to give each of her friends a spoon in remembrance. This is why one finds all sorts of odd assortments of spoons and sets with no spoons. The 5 teaspoons offered here measure about 6ï¿½. These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 125 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is W monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear.
