American postwar and contemporary artist John Beck (Buck) (b. 1959).Beck was born in Baltimore, MD, but has lived and worked in New York since 1978. In 2008 he changed his last name from Beck to Buck as a work of art. He studied at New York University; Tisch School of the Arts Film and TV Department; and the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Beck has exhibited in many solo and group shows including Strange Attractor; Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, TX; Robert Buck: States of America, Pizzuti Collection, Columbus, OH; Range: Experiments in New York, 1961 – 2007; and Metropolitan Museum of Art NY. His work is included in the numerous collections including Museum of Modern Art NY; Whitney Museum of American Art NY; San Francisco Museum of Art CA; Dallas Museum of Art TX; Getty Museum of Art CA; Columbus Museum of Art OH; and Centre Pompidou, Paris, France.
