The date refers to the most current census year prior to production of the map and this information is found on the map. The map exhibits normal wear around the edges and corners. It is only lightly soiled on the outer front and back but the map itself is clean and sharp. In the photos you see several areas of damage. Most are of small holes along fold creases, however, there is a small area missing from the lower back cover. On the map itself the tear comes just right up to the Iowa/Minnesota border at Allamakee County. The northern half of the state is on one side of the map and the southern half is on the other.
