Description: United States Marine (1925–1979) who was immortalized in Joe Rosenthal's famous World War II photograph as one of the six flag-raisers atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Christmas card signed, ''Love as Ever, Rene'' in black ink. Measures 4.25'' x 5.75''. Card is taped at the top edge to the original mailing envelope, made out in Gagnon's hand (to his future wife) and bearing his name (and therefore signature) in return address.
