Red Wing 5128 Classic Work Boots Size 10.5D (Soft Toe) (1970)

Description: These boots fit true to size. I normally wear US 10.5D true to size boots, and these 10.5D 5128s fit quite well. These 10.5D 5128s should fit someone who normally wears 10.5D boots, and possible someone who normally wears a slightly smaller sized boot after putting in footbeds. In regards to the defects... Though these boots are new and unused, the exterior leather can't seem to absorb conditioners very well, which is either the result of age or perhaps some prior treatment used. That being said, I've found that applying light conditioners inside the boots helps to hydrate the leather well enough. It's worth mentioning I had another 5128 dyed, and those seem to absorb conditioners far better than the undyed 5128s, probably because of the deglazer that was applied prior to dying. So, if these boots are to be worn, it would probably be worth the time and money to have them dyed just so the boots could be conditioned again with ease. If these boots aren't sold relatively soon I'll probably have them dyed either dark brown or black and relist them. In addition, the soles are in good shape but are inflexible as a result of age, but it's worth mentioning the boots can be resoled. It's also worth mentioning these boots have a distinct old leather smell, which is likely the result of not being properly conditioned over the years. Thankfully it isn't unpleasant like rotten leather, but it's still noticeable. If you've ever been in a museum with old military uniforms on display you'll have the idea of what these boots would smell like.
