Description: Rare early original edition of “WINTER SCENES IN LOS ANGELES” with 43 original photographs, some by Carlton Watkins. This concertina (fan-folded) style album contain 43 captioned b/w photolithographic images (i.e original photographs printed through a lithographic process). These photographic views were reproduced by Louis Glaser’s process using a series of stones laid down with separate shades of oil-based inks ranging from white to light sepia-grey to the darkest sepia-grey or black. The finished image has a varnished look, contributing to the illusion of depth not found in lithographs. The 16 panel accordion fold-out, was tipped-in to the verso of the front cover(see scans). Back of book has a 6 page (as issued) “Los Angeles” descriptive text about the city as it existing in 1889. Book measures 5 x 6 inches and is in very good condition with only light wear to spine and 2 inch repaired separation of first accordion fold(see scans). There are no missing or damaged pages and no other views with any bends, creases or separation of accordion folds. Very few of these souvenir books remain especially with no damaged views and accordion folds intact. Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks.
