Description: Pretty, retro Art Nouveau-style vintage 9ct gold and diamond ring from Welsh gold jewellery manufacturers, Clogau. The ring features a three strand swirls, one of which rises into a delicate, three-petalled bud, whilst the other two gently cradle three dainty, sparkling diamonds. Photos don't do it credit! Size is UK Q-Q1/2. The ring is stamped inside the band with the Company's distinctive trademark and the Edinburgh Assay Office stamp which since 2004 has ensured the presence of Welsh gold. There's no date mark so it's not possible to tell when this ring was made, but its styling and charm is ageless. Gold was discovered at the Clogau St David’s mine in Bontudu, Wales in 1854 and it became the richest and most productive gold mine in the Dolgellau gold belt. In 1989 a local man named William Roberts made a very unexpected and exciting discovery – the abandoned gold mine in the mountains of Snowdonia. He gambled on the idea there would be some undiscovered gold still buried within the mine and the Company was started, although it wasn't until 1992 that the first range of jewellery emerged. With gold mining no longer taking place in Wales today, Welsh gold supplies will eventually run out, making it possibly the rarest gold in the world and due to this scarcity, only a small amount is included within each piece of Clogau jewellery. This is an lovely ring which is bound to become more precious as the years advance and the value of Welsh gold rises. It will no doubt become a much-treasured heirloom for the future. Please note, photos are enlarged to show detail; scale can be assessed by photo 19. Ring will be supplied in the modern jeweller's box pictured. Thank you.
