Whether you're on the ranch or in the city, these boots will have you looking and feeling like a true cowboy. This has been the ultimate dress boot for me and the best boot in my closet. It will surely be missed. My traditional boots are not at all garish because my focus was on elegant high quality and were not used for work. I used them only socially and primarily for dancing on hardwood floors. These boots have been resoled in the past. Recently, there has been a small professional repair in the sole due to a flaw in the sole leather. New heels have also been added as well as dressing the toes. These boots were made in the early 1980s. These boots are 17" high. These have a traditional 'Riding Heel' (the real Cowboy boot!). This boot has an interesting history. They were purchased at Portland's historic 'Portland Outdoor Store'. This was a boot made specifically for them that was not only a very tall boot but had no fancy stitching. It was made of the highest quality leather that would compare to calf but stronger. It was intended to be the best quality dress traditional Western Cowboy boot on the market. I had a recent discussion with the store to see if this boot was still available. They no longer carry Justin because of its loss of quality in recent years. They said that a similar boot from their current brands, Lucchese and Dan Post, would start at $600. My discussion a few years ago, when I had these half soled with the Sequim Boot Repair, was that they would cost about $800 new, at that time. This is truly a rare boot in any boot market today. Hey guys, in my opinion, there is no better feeling in a boot than to have a tall shaft across the back of one's calf. When I tried a 'test pair' of these boots on in Portland the day I bought them, I KNEW they would become my most loved boots. I was like a kid waiting for Christmas for my ordered boots to arrive. I will miss them like a loss of a friend of 40 years but at 85 and swelling feet, my days enjoying them are over. It was a great 40 years of dancing with them, too. When you are considering a vintage leather boot, you must first understand there is a big difference in the quality of the leather between then and now ...According to some sources, the quality of leather tanning was higher 40 years ago than today, because the raw materials were better, and the tanneries were able to use more time and less strict regulations to produce leather. However, this may also mean that the leather tanning process was more harmful to the environment and the health of the workers, as it involved the use of toxic chemicals, animal waste, and large amounts of water. Regulations have brought the negative's more under control but that has resulted, in most cases, to a more inferior product today compare with 40 years ago.I've been a big Justin fan in the past but no longer. You will see this message on even the best boots they make anymore: "Made in the USA with global parts". Not all made in the USA! I don't think I would buy a new pair of Justins today. Just about all my boots, I either bought new in the 1980/1990s or they were from that period. Additioinal photos available upon request.
