Circa 1989. I got all-new furniture for a house I bought in '89. With a 7 day, 80 hour work week I virtually “lived” at work with little time at home. I was also single and childless so the furniture went largely unused (I'm a non-smoker, too). Around '94 my folk's fall into ill health had me at their house daily after work. I slept mainly at their house for the next 20 years to address care-giving issues. Now they've passed & I've got two houses full of furniture. Much as I love many of these pieces some simply must go. This love seat in a handsome Slate Blue upholstery fabric is such a timeless design that it wouldn't look out of place sitting in a display on the sales floor of a high-end furniture store even today. I've priced this near-new example at less than half of the original inflation-adjusted cost when I purchased it new in 1989. In recent years Pennsylvania House has gone through some ownership changes and today much of their production has moved offshore like most other brands. This piece, however, dates from 1989 when Pennsylvania House was still producing all of their high-end pieces right here in their original USA workshops. Real handcrafted solid wood frames, precision made-in-USA construction, hand-tied springs and an obsessive attention to detail were the hallmarks of Pennsylvania House in those days. Please note the photo showing the tag with the Chicago Pacific name. Since Chicago Pacific was the parent company of Pennsylvania House from '86 to '89.this confirms the provenance of this fine quality love seat. This listing is a Slate Blue Love Seat with a pillow-style back and classic roll armrests. The beautiful Slate Blue fabric has an elegant, understated pattern of very small & subdued squares. Each square is a combo of light & dark Taupe and is a bit over 1/8th of an inch in height & width. For maximum longevity each square is actually woven-in rather than just printed on the fabric. The back cushions have a loose pillow look but are attached. The bottom cushions are fully reversible for enhanced longevity. Craftsmanship on the detail work such as the stitching and fabric folds is superb. The underlying frame is solid hardwood and the springs are eight-way hand-tied. Overall dimensions are 53” long with a 32” depth and a 34” height. The interior seating area is 41” long with a 20” depth and 20” back height, Seat height is 17” with an arm height of 23”.
