Description: I recently purchased a collection of fairly rare Civil War, Mexican War & Revolutionary War related books belonging to a man (now deceased) who metal detected in the Virginia and Maryland area in the 1980's, and also in NM, AZ and Texas after moving here to New Mexico in the 1990's. The American Conflict-A history of the Great Rebellion of the United States of America, 1860-65, Its causes, incidents and results: intended to exhibit especially its moral and political phases with the drift and progress of American opinion respecting human slavery from 1776 to the close of the war for the union. Author is Horace Greeley. Both first editions, published by O.D. Case & Company, Hartford, Geo & C.W. Sherwood, Chicago 1864 (Volume 1); and O.D. Case & Co-1867 (Volume 2). Condition: Both Volumes have been REBOUND, so the covers and spine are in very nice condition. The contents and text are very nice also, no markings, no loose pages, rips or tears that I could see. I didn't check every page. Some of the pages have the typical foxing and discoloration one would expect of books printed in the 1860's. Volume 1 is 648 pages and covers 1860 thru 1864, Volume 2 is 782 pages and covers the remainder of the war. Measures 7" x 10 3/4". Each volume has several engravings and portraits.
