Sabicas, Serranito, Cano, Maravilla, Martinez, Marchena, Ricardo Label: Command International Catalog Number: RS 931 SD Grade: Media NM / Sleeve NM Release Year: 1969 Sabicas Reviews: Jay S. Harrison said it best in the New York Herald Tribune review, proclaiming “Sabicas and Flamenco, in short, are almost synonymous. All that it is, he is: all that it needs, he is able to provide.” To this day, many are of the opinion that Sabicas was the best guitar player and musician the world has ever known. They attribute him with this honor because of his multifaceted mastery, which included technique, speed, clarity, expression, timing, dynamics, phrasing, improvisation, and creativity. He was known to be generous with teaching others and was open to collaboration. Sabicas Bio: Sabicas, spanish flamenco guitarist (1907-1990) was born Agustín Castellón, the son of gypsies. Sabicas made his debut at the age of nine as a guitarist in a Madrid theater. He performed as a solo guitarist and a featured accompanist to flamenco dancers and singers, among them Carmen Amaya. He made his New York concert recital debut at Town Hall in 1959, and subsequently concertized and recorded extensively in the United States.A Rare Collection: This record collection's previous owner was a belated family member, Lew, who fulfilled a dream of playing flamenco guitar professionally. Back in the day, Lew traveled to concerts given by flamenco artists. He even moved to So. CA to learn guitar from the gypsies, following them as they moved. Ultimately, Lew played guitar in concerts with the flamenco dancers. However, being a gringo he predicted his chances of his fulfilling his dream of becoming a full time flamenco guitarist were slim. While Lew continued to play, he worked as a teacher and principal until he fulfilled another dream of becoming a home builder and real estate developer. It's an honor to share Lew’s story because we shared a love of music. In fact, all sale proceeds go to recording an album of eleven piano compositions that I've written. Condition: Lew did play the records, but not for long. Because he played Flamenco, they were played for reference, not entertainment. Lew handled the vinyl with great care. However, he was not persnickety about the cover sleeves and they show wear that is consistent with their age and use. All 32 record's media and sleeves are graded with the Goldmine Standard criteria. Because we've not play-graded, we graded conservatively. This is one of many ways we strive to earn happy customers. Please see the photos for more detail on the item condition. Cleanliness: Media has been handled carefully through a two-step cleaning process with an anti-static carbon fiber record brush. Second, it is properly cleaned with recording cleaning fluid, pad, and cloth. The cleaned media is stored in a new inner paper sleeve. Shipping: The media arrives in a new anti-static clear vinyl sleeve, wrapped for maximum protection inside a sturdy box marked "fragile." From the Seller: Please feel free to email me any questions. Your order is appreciated. All proceeds go toward recording an album of original piano compositions that I’ve waited a lifetime to complete.Thank you, Douglas Clay
