Why, a guaranteed genuine and original 1866-67 OEGON STAGE COACH DRIVER'S PAY VOUCHER - basically a pay check and receipt rolled into one. These stage drivers braved the rugged terrain between Northern California and Oregon, Indian raids, bandits and breakdowns, to help blaze the early trails that became rails or roads of the future. This was during the Northwest Gold Rush Era* so you can just imagine who the passengers must have been.*Gold discoveries in northern and eastern Washington drew more settlers north of California in the 1850s and 1860s. A gold rush to the Fraser River in the 1850s, and a later one to the Cassiar region of British Columbia, drew many California miners to the Northwest. The Oregon Stage Coach Company, owned by Henry W. Corbett, ran a major stagecoach route between California and Oregon in the mid 1800s.Henry Corbett, of Massachusetts, came to live in Portland in 1851. He became a co-publisher of the Oregonian newspaper, and in 1867 he served as a US senator. In 1866, Corbett began a stagecoach company that ran between Sacramento and Portland. What had previously been called the California and Oregon Stage Line was thereafter named the Oregon Stage Coach Company. Although changes were subsequently made in organization, the Oregon Stage Company continued to control the stagecoach business between California and Oregon until these two states were linked by rail in 1887.
