Description: This auction is for a 1 bulb, 1 lead bare root division of Schomburgkia (Laelia) superbiens alba. This plant came from the same seed pod as 'Don Hubert Cross' CBM/AOS but has never been given a clonal name. The mother plant was deflasked in 1964 and has only had 3 owners (we're the 3rd) since. The last picture is the plant that will be shipped to the winner of this auction. We only take a limited number of divisions when there is new growth and new roots so this is a very limited offering! It will need to be potted into a 5” pot or a hanging basket. The flowers are pure crystalline-white with a splash of gold on the lip and are 6-8” across. The flower spikes start developing Nov-December and can be as long as 12 feet by the time the 8-15 flowers open in the early spring. As you can see in the pics, it is best grown by folks who have a lot of room! If you live someplace it doesn’t freeze, this plant grows great outdoors. Care is similar to other Laelias: very bright light, cool-warm temps and lots of water in the spring-summer and very little water in the fall-winter. My mother plant is the original plant (not a cutting) that was born in 1964! The plant has not been repotted since the 60's. There is a picture below of me in front of the plant. The plant originates from a 6" pot that was swallowed long ago. At some point it crawled out of the pot and took over an entire table. When we purchased it we cut the legs off the table and simply mounted it to a wall in the greenhouse. This plant is no joke! It measures 10 feet tall x 12 feet wide and still growing! It weighs over 300lbs! If you would like to see a video of it go to youtube and the title is " 'Plant of the day' Schomburkia superbiens". Shipping is $12.00. A box warmer is included in your shipment, free of charge, if needed to ensure plant's well being. Other sellers charge up to $4 for this! We ship USPS Priority only. Continental U.S. and P.R. only. We do discount shipping for multiple items! We charge the highest shipping charge of the plants purchased and all others after that are $3. We ship on Tuesdays and Fridays.
