Description: Offer:A rare first edition, first printing of Bruce R. McConkie's monumental work Mormon Doctrine. At the time of its publication, this book stirred significant controversy. The author, a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (although not yet an Apostle), attempted to definitely and comprehensively put down in encyclopedic format the beliefs of the Latter-day Saints—hence "Mormon Doctrine". Many, including some of the leadership of the LDS Church such as the First Presidency and President David O. McKay himself, took issue with McConkie's work and returned to him many, many notes for necessary changes, eventually pulling the book from the market. A second edition would be published in 1966 which incorporated the changes church leadership demanded, but the furor was not forgotten. A first edition copy of Mormon Doctrine has ever since been regarded as a "must have" for Mormon book collectors, with a first edition, first printing copy even more so. Copies in their original dust jacket are even more scarce, making this volume the perfect trifecta. Condition:The dust jacket displays some chipping and tearing, but is in good condition overall. The book itself is in Very Good to Near Fine condition with no writing or marking throughout (with the exception of a name written inside the front board).
