Description: RARE AND VERY FINE MINIATURE GEORGE III MAHOGANY TWO-PART BOOKCASE OVER CHEST Of Child-Like Dimensions | England, circa 1800 Item # 403TYP02X A rare and very fine George III mahogany miniature two-part bookcase, the example was probably a salesman's sample showcasing the high-grade of cabinet work available from his shop. Every detail is carefully executed in the manner of a full-size bookcase including the joinery to be expected and all moldings. Beneath a cove-molded crown, the bookcase presents with a pair of astragal-molded nine-pane glazed doors that open to reveal an adjustably shelved interior. This upper section is attached to the lower base with screws that go through the bottom of the bookcase in a manner identical to the full sized secretary desks and bookcases. The bottom chest of drawers features four graduated full-width drawers, each hung with original brass hardware and featuring an incised edge framing the facade of the drawer. They feature crisply hand-cut dovetails in the pine secondary woods. The chest is raised on simple bracket feet with inward scrolled curves. The back and underside present untouched secondary woods with rich dark brown oxidization throughout, hand-cut dovetailing of the crown corners and mostly original nails throughout the back. An exceedingly fine piece, the surface glows under layers of shellac and centuries of wax applications. With rich color and great proportions, it is a rare conversation piece that also remains fully functional for display of small treasures and is often used for the organization of letters/stamps/bills/paperwork/important documents. Measurements: 35 7/8" H x 10 7/8" D x 17 3/4" W Condition Report: Rich historical surface with good color throughout, overall relatively early finish though not original; hairline cracks throughout from shrinkage over the years; all original hardware, no keys included; some patching around the top drawer escutcheon; light wear, abrasion and surface history throughout from years of regular careful use. A very fine presentation. Delivery is generally 5-10 business days after packing is complete for the East Coast and 15-20 business days after packing is complete for the West Coast. Rush service is available so just contact us for a quote if there is a project deadline. The Process:The item is professionally packaged by our in-house team, palletized and shipped on a tractor trailer. Packing happens on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays so if your purchase comes through on a Wednesday, it may not be packed until the following Tuesday depending on our packing schedule. We release the palletized shipment to the LTL freight firm and upload tracking information to your orderOnce the freight has made it to the terminal nearest to your home, the dispatch team will notify the buyer and schedule a delivery day. The buyer is then required to make the necessary arrangements to receive and inspect the goods. Some freight firms will offer a delivery window while others will require the buyer or a representative for the buyer to be available the entire day. Please note, drivers are never allowed to call the buyer to update them on an expected delivery time, though it may be possible for the buyer to call the terminal and get a rough idea on updated timing throughout the day.On delivery day, the tractor trailer will arrive at the residence and the truck driver will lower the palletized shipment to the nearest curb with a lift-gate where the buyer will then be responsible for bringing it into the home, unpacking and disposing of the packing materials. If you require a higher level of service (i.e brought up the driveway and into the garage, brought into the entryway of the home, etc.) just contact us for a quote.
