Description: Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (15 July 1606 - 4 October 1669) This important etching is entitled The Prodigal Son. The image is signed in the plate below the figures, on the platform, and dated 1636. The etching measures 5 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches including the white border surrounding that is slightly visible because of the inner matte. The numbers in the extreme lower right corner in the border read, "44--1636--B.91". The etching is tipped-in along upper edge on original vellum paper that measures 8 3/4 x 12 inches. 11.5in x 13.5in w frame
