Description: Antique Primitive Glass Minnow Trap with Original Wooden Shipping Box A very rare, once in a lifetime, field find! A very early, unmarked glass minnow trap in its original primitive wooden shipping box. * Could be an early Hawco with "O" feet or an early Orvis trap. ~ "The Shakespeare company seems to have gotten in on the minnow trap market in the early part of the 1900's by retailing traps made by the Hawco company. These were unmarked and of the same style as the Orvis trap." * The glass minnow trap is unbranded but has characteristics of the early Orvis traps with a hinged, swivel slide lid rather than the later screw-on lids (see lid detail picture). Minnow trap is in excellent condition with no visible cracks or dinks. Original silver solder on bottom wire junctures. Glass minnow trap measures about 12" long and 8" high with a bottom diameter of 7" and a top diameter of 3 1/4". There is an old piece of hemp rope for trap in box. Old, shredded newspaper is at the bottom of the box that is dated March 5, 1920 (see detailed picture). The original primitive wooden shipping box measures about 15 1/4" x 10" x 9 1/4". Small-sized tongue in groove. Lid is split in two. Side of box is stenciled in black: GLASS MINNOW TRAP HANDLE CAREFULLY The top of the box was addressed to Widenor Bros. in Belvidere, NJ. Widenors was an old hardware store founded in 1892. In addition, the top of the box has penciled in the name and address of the probable customer, Mrs.(?) Bachman on Foul Rift (Rd.), (Belvidere) NJ.
