Description: For sale here is a stellar example of Alvino Bagni's Sea Garden glaze on an impressive brutalist form executed for Raymor. You will look at 1000 pieces of MCM pottery before you see one this striking! You will be the envy of all of your fellow collectors. This dramatic vase may be the best looking piece of Raymor pottery I've ever seen. It is certainly the best I've ever owned. The shape is a beautiful sculpture in the best brutalist tradition. It belongs in the movie METROPOLIS! If you can own only one good piece of MCM pottery, this would be a wise investment. I've seen this form before, but never with such a stunning glaze! If the form is the potter's canvas, then the glaze is the potter's paint - and this painting is incredible! The glaze explodes from all sides and flows and blends like molten lava down the ridges and crevices of the vase. Colors and textures run the gamut - they are flat, they are glossy, they are rough, they are smooth, they are volcanic, they are thick and in places thin. The colors run in light and dark hues of incredible blues, greens, browns, shades of black and more. In places the rust color of the clay body shows through. In other places, the glaze glistens like a wet, light blue sea-foam. The interior is a light glossy grey. I can't say enough about this glaze. The glaze makes the vase must as the suit makes the man. Place 10 of this exact design side by side and you will be drawn to this one every time. This is a very dramatic vase and will be the keystone piece in all but the most advanced MCM collections. The pictures do it justice but it is better in person. The vase is heavy and imposing, weighing just under 7 pounds. It is large, standing 14" tall and flaring out to 7" at the base. The vase bears the original factory label as shown in the pictures. Please study the pictures to appreciate the rugged beauty of this vase. I can find no wear or damage at all. This vase presents as the day it was made. To be 100% accurate, I will mention one glaze run that flows to the underside of the base and causes the vase to teeter only slightly when on a hard flat surface (see pictures 10 and 11). It is original to the making of the vase. I sit it on a doily to even out the base. I suppose you could grind it off, but I wouldn't touch it. You will fall in love with this vase! I never tire of looking at it. I've been specializing in quality art and antiques for the past 40 years. I am proud to offer some of the nicer examples of antiques in their diverse categories. My prices are well researched and very competitive, but I am happy to consider all offers. I list to sell. Thank you for your interest and for looking at my auctions.
