Rare Early John Seymour Signed Sey Ceramic Stoneware Elephant Sculpture 1/1 MCM

Description: This listing is for a one of a kind original and vintage John H. Seymour Mid Century Modern Studio Art Pottery Stoneware Elephant head Figurine / Sculpture. It's Signed “SEY”, cut in on the side near the bottom. The stoneware sculpture is adorable and kind of a cute original piece by this highly collected and talented artist. This must be one of his earlier professional pieces because where he signed it's "SEY" only. No copyright symbol, no date, no production number. This is a one of one! It's in great condition overall, with no signs of damage, no chipping, and no wear. Please view the photos carefully as they are my main description. It is somewhat big and heavy weighing nearly 7 lbs before packing and will be securely packaged and double boxed. It measures about 8″ tall, about 8″ front to back, and about 10" wide. Mr. Seymour was born June 22, 1920, in Eger, Hungary, son of the late Joseph and Ann Somogyi. He was a ceramic sculptor who owned and operated his own studio at Voltaire's in New Milford. He was best known for his animal sculptures which were exhibited nationally.Sadly he passed away 16 years ago, at age 87, in 2007. A similar piece by the same artist measuring significantly smaller at about 6.5"x5.5"x5.5" sold in 2017 for just $160. That work is more indicative of his 80's-90's copyrighted "brown and speckle" motif that you will find several examples on eBay today if you search for his work. This particular piece has the look of terracotta, and could easily be mistaken as having just been dug up in a far away place from the times of antiquity. Truly a one of a kind.
