Description: Presented is a wonderful antique American Victorian 10 karat yellow gold mourning or memorial type ring, dating to circa the 1820s-1840s. The ring is beautifully made, in the form of a belt with belt buckle for the head of the ring. The sides are hinged and open to reveal a plait of brown hair. The interior of the band is inscribed “Mother," quite legibly. The ring itself is in excellent overall condition. The details of the belt and buckle design are nice and crisp. The plaited hair around the interior is intact. The hinged parts open and shut smoothly. This ring is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10 karat purity. The ring is a size 7 1/2. The head of the ring is about 8.7 millimeters wide, while the rest of the band is about 4.5 millimeters wide. This ring weighs 3.1 grams. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
