He's wrested with a fearless opponent who's outweighed him by hundreds of pounds, And not only has he been Red Riding Hood's replacement, in addition to being a crime boss' worst nightmare, this rabbit has also been a coyote's unwitting foe, not to mention reducing a monster to a harmless sniveling mini monster in a can. This of course is Bugs Bunny - a character whose wit and sometimes-vengeful duality has been enjoyed by both children and adults for over sixty years. Without a doubt, Bugs continues to be the single most important and influential cartoon character in animation today. In this limited edition animation cel called "Bugs Bunny Lobby Card," Bugs can take his well-deserved blow. This image begins with Bugs giving the a-okay sign as if to say, "Not bad for a career that began in 1938." Behind him is a background that says even more about Bugs' achievements. Using the Giclee printing technique, fifteen original lobby cards, technically called "publicity stills," were enhanced with subtle coloring and reproduced to show some of Bugs' most famous Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes cartoon shorts. Alike to feature films, these cards would hang in movie theater lobbies to promote the latest Warner Bros. cartoon, in addition to appearing in Hollywood trade magazines of the day. One of the lobby card's main roles was to encapsulate the latest Bugs' cartoon's story in a single image so that passers-by, with one blink of the eye, can get the entire essence of a studio's most recent work. Another distinguishing feature of these lobby cards is their representation of directors Fred (Tex) Avery, Robert Clampett, Isadore (Friz) Freleng, Chuck Jones and Bob McKimson. Undoubtedly, without the indelible characteristics these men have given Bugs' he would not have evolved from a smart-aleck hare to the sophisticated rabbit of today. In all, this special and historically important fine art edition shows that whether lean, short, squat or adversely goofy, Bugs, no matter his mood or provocation, has ascended to heights unseen in other cartoon characters. He remains an animation icon in any form, past or present. Mike Fontanelli and Juan Ortiz rendered the original drawing for this limited edition. The master inking was made by Laurie Dindis, which was then silk-screened onto an acetate sheet along with the Clampett Studio Collections seal of authenticity. Each cel was expertly hand-painted on the reverse side in the classic animation style. The background was created by grouping together publicity still images (Images Courtesy the Collection of Jerry Beck) which were then rendered in color and reproduced utilizing the fine art Giclee process.
